From the villa, you can walk down to the beach and the lively seaside resort below which has restaurants, shops and a market every Monday.

There are plenty of cute coves and pebbly beaches nearby – the nearest is just 350 metre from the villa – and a greater choice of family-friendly or unspoilt beaches within 10 kilometres.

The style of this beachfront holiday villa in Cadaqués is typical of a local hacienda. Exterior archways, sloped timber-beamed ceilings, terracotta and hardwood come together in a celebration of Spanish style. Thick, white clay walls keep the inside cool.

The kitchen is bright and inviting with a Lacanche double-oven range cooker. Outside, there’s a stone-built barbecue for cooking up tastily smoked fish or meats.

This property has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main suite upstairs is air-conditioned and opens onto a patio overlooking the pool and the sea. The other bedrooms are on the ground floor. One has an en-suite shower room while the other two share a bathroom between them.

Holiday home with a pool in Spain: things to see and do nearby

- Cap de Creus Natural Park: This Spanish rental villa is in the northern part of the Costa Brava, near the French border. Cap de Creus is a maritime and land nature reserve between the Pyrenees mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the most beautiful natural parks on the Costa Brava and can be explored on bike, kayak, foot, horseback or even by paragliding! But if that all sounds too energetic then you can also just enjoy meandering along the multiple beaches and creeks nearby. Just a short walk down the hill will bring you to pretty coves covered with pebbles rather than sand, like most of the region's beaches. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters at Sant Lluis, Del Jonquet and Guillola beaches, which are ideal for swimming.

- Cadaqués is best known for its bohemian chic atmosphere. Stroll through the steep streets of the old town and follow the white-washed houses to the 16th-century Santa Maria church for great views of the town and the bay. The houses on the seafront are more recent and inspired by Cuban architecture. Cadaqués locals built them upon their return from America where they went to seek their fortune. This is part of what gives Cadaqués such a bright and vibrant atmosphere. And there is always something happening. Other than buzzing bars, restaurants and entertainment, June sees the “An American in Cadaqués” event when the locals dress in period costumes to re-enact the arrival of the returning “Americans”, who brought music back with them. The story is deeply rooted in the town’s identity and adds to the festive vibe.

- Food and wine: Nothing says holidays more than tasting delicious local specialities. As a fishing village, seafood figures high on the menu and is a big part of the region’s identity. Anchovies are a staple, eaten simply on a slice of garlic bread, and shrimp, squid, mussels, lionfish, sardines, sea bream and lobster are also in plentiful supply. This isn’t paella region though – that comes from Valencia. It was originally made of rice and meat but each region adds its own twist, such as prawns on the Costa Brava. Other fish specialities are Suquet de Peix de Roses and Catalan zarzuela.
Catalonia is the largest Spanish region to produce superior quality wines, including AOC Emporda – this is the region the villa is in. Vineyards are part of the Costa Brava landscape. The wine route begins about 50km further north and runs along the coast. The sun-drenched climate produces sweet and very quaffable white, red and roséw ines. Visit the vineyards by the sea for a memorable experience, against a backdrop of the sea and the local olive groves swathed in the inimitable Mediterranean light.

- Art: The iconic natural light in the Mediterranean regions has attracted and inspired many famous painters. Just as France drew Cézanne to Aix-en-Provence and Van Gogh to Saint-Rémy, Catalonia is known as the home of Dali, who was born and died here. Naturally, his work lives on; visit the museum of his home in Port-Lligat, the theatre in Figueras or the castle in Pubol. He painted many canvases of Cadaqués in his early days before he ventured into Futurism, Cubism and Surrealism for which he is best known. Other painters, such as Picasso visited Cadaqués. The region still has a strong artistic vibe and continues to attract many painters from all backgrounds, perpetuating a bohemian, artistic and cosmopolitan.
